Low season! The Advantages of traveling to Chile in Autumn and Winter

Many travelers prefer to take advantage of the low season, which offers a wide range of options for those who wish to visit Chile.

March to November is considered the low season for traveling to Chile, including autumn, winter, and spring. Traveling during this period will make your stay in Chile a unique and more affordable experience.

During the low season, tickets are usually cheaper, and as the demand drops, you can buy package tours at a lower price.

Another considerable advantage is that the destinations in Chile are much less crowded, allowing you to enjoy each one of the places you visit more comfortably.

If you have the opportunity to give yourself a “getaway” from your work in the middle of the year, do so, it will be completely refreshing. You’ll notice how the year becomes shorter, making it mentally comforting to take a break mid-year.

Skiing and Hot Springs

From June to October, different ski resorts are open in Santiago, the capital of Chile. Valle Nevado, La Parva, Farellones, and El Colorado are some of the most popular ski resorts at the foot of the Andes Mountains.

Although there are some peak season periods, such as during weekends, winter break, and Chile’s National Holidays (September 18th), these ski resorts are always an excellent option for enjoying the snow during the late autumn and throughout the winter in the southern hemisphere.

Further to the south, about 700 km (435 mi) south of Santiago and 100 km (62 mi) from the city of Temuco, you can enjoy skiing in the areas of Malalcahuello and Corralco. These places have become a trendy destination for spending the winter in Chile. They offer hot springs, waterfalls, national parks, and plenty of snow in the ski center! What more could you ask for?

Another attraction visitors can enjoy during the autumn and spring is the numerous hiking trails in the Araucarias National Reserve and along the surrounding rivers.

The best part? It is only a 2-hour drive from the Temuco airport to the mountains. The town is small, but it has several hot springs and spas. You will love it!

The city of Eternal Spring

Another excellent destination to visit during the low season in Chile is in the country’s north, the city of Iquique, and its surrounding areas. Given the pleasant climate all year round, this region is known as the place of the “eternal spring.”

At any time of the year, you can enjoy the area’s beautiful beaches, the painted geoglyphs, the heritage of the abandoned saltpeter mines, Baquedano Street, the descent of Cerro Tarapacá, and much more! In 5 to 6 days, you can get to know the essence of this destination and renew yourself entirely if you travel in the low season.
